How Does AI-Based Product Counting on Conveyors Work?
Learn how camera and AI-powered product counting systems work on production lines through a realistic factory scenario.
Why is manual counting insufficient?
A medium-sized packaging manufacturer frequently found differences between operator worksheets and ERP records at the end of each shift. Fast-moving products, overlapping items and shift changes made manual counting unreliable.
Camera-based solution
A camera installed at the correct point of the production line monitors every product moving on the conveyor in real time. The AI model separates the product from the background, tracks it and records it only when it crosses the defined counting line. This prevents the same item from being counted more than once.
Benefits in the field
The operator screen can display the live quantity, production target and shift progress. Results can be stored by date, line, product and shift for detailed reporting. The system may also notify managers when production falls behind the target.
Computer vision solutions developed by M&L Technology can be trained specifically for different product shapes and production speeds.
