Let Sensor Data or Time Decide When to Irrigate

With NetRelay, irrigation does not have to rely on a fixed timer alone. Soil moisture measurements and scheduled rules can be combined to create automated irrigation workflows that respond to actual field conditions.

Automatically Irrigate When Soil Becomes Dry

When the soil moisture value falls below a configured threshold, NetRelay can automatically activate the relevant relay and start a pump or irrigation valve.

For example, irrigation can begin automatically when soil moisture drops below 30%, allowing watering decisions to respond to real soil conditions.

Automatic Irrigation Every Two Days at 20:00

A periodic schedule can also be used alongside sensor-based control. The system can be configured to automatically start irrigation every two days at 20:00.

Automatically Stop After 30 Minutes

Whether irrigation was triggered by the soil moisture threshold or by the scheduled timer, the relay can remain active for a predefined period. After 30 minutes, NetRelay can automatically deactivate the relay and stop the pump or valve.

Example Automation Rule

Condition 1: Start irrigation when soil moisture falls below the configured threshold.

OR

Condition 2: Start irrigation every two days at 20:00.

Action: Activate the irrigation relay.

Duration: 30 minutes.

Final Action: Automatically switch the irrigation relay off when the duration is complete.

A Real Garden Scenario

The soil moisture sensor continuously monitors the garden. If hot weather causes the soil to dry before the next scheduled irrigation day, watering can start immediately without waiting for the timer.

If the moisture threshold has not been reached, the periodic schedule can still start irrigation at 20:00 every two days. In both cases, the system automatically stops after 30 minutes.

Pump and Solenoid Valve Control

NetRelay relay outputs can control suitable irrigation inputs directly or operate contactors for higher-power pumps. Separate relay outputs can be assigned to solenoid valves for different irrigation zones.

Different Rules for Multiple Zones

Different soil moisture thresholds and schedules can be configured for individual greenhouse or garden zones according to crop and soil requirements.

Automate Evening Irrigation

Scheduling irrigation for evening hours such as 20:00 can help reduce rapid evaporation during hot periods. Timing can be customized according to local climate, crop type and irrigation method.

Record Every Irrigation Event

The central system can record why each irrigation cycle started, making it possible to distinguish sensor-triggered watering from scheduled watering.

Extend the Workflow with Additional Conditions

The same scenario can be expanded using rain detection, water tank level or wind information. For example, irrigation can be prevented when rainfall is detected or when the water tank level is too low.
